Large petroglyph platter, 17 1/2", iridized black only.

Small petroglyph platter, 10 1/2", iridized black only.

These platters were inspired by the many petroglyph symbols I saw while exploring the Hawaiian Islands during the 10 years I lived on the Big Island. I spent many hours researching these in the library and discovered some interesting archeology papers detailing the location and in some cases the early discussions of meanings with the local Hawiian people.

Each platter comes with an artist's diagram and brief description of the symbols chosen. Each one is unique with a completely different set of petroglyphs except for two very popular symbols you will see on each: the sea turtle and the birth symbol.

The backs are textured like lava and the front is iridized like some lava flows seen on the Big Island.

These are black and are completely opaque, no light shines through them at all.
